Chicchi by Marigold: Marigold blend
The Marigold blend is made up of beans from Peru, Rwanda, and a second selection of beans from the Cauca Department in Colombia, produced by Flor Penna on her farm, Villa Hermosa. Flor is well known in her town for her strong, independent nature. Although she lives with her mother and two brothers, she carries out all of the agricultural and administrative duties herself, only occasionally hiring outside help when an extra pair of hands is needed.
To maintain and control the quality of the coffee in this region, family farms collaborate with Pergamino, an association that partners with exporters, and has established a small warehouse and cupping lab. Pergamino provides logistics and sourcing partners as well as quality assessment which affords hundreds of small, family-owned farms like Villa Hermosa, access to higher prices in the specialty coffee market. Associations like Pergamino perpetuate sustainable coffee production by keeping standards high and incentivizing local farmers by paying premiums for their coffee, usually between 30-300% over other market prices.
